The
digital expansion in film releases has made special FX almost commonplace.
Also, coming along rapidly is progressive scan, and 24 frame per second
HD digital cameras like no other ever known.
The talent and technical
pool for the new technologies, however, lags in terms of a formal, studied
approach to applying digital means in fresh and creative ways. The Digital
Filmmaking program at the School of Communication Arts is as forward
thinking today as the School's original work in "High-End"
computer animation.
With a larger "toolkit",
the program moves from the classroom to the studio and on location.
The knowledge base of the successful graduate from the program includes,
but is not limited to practicing
+ the role of Director of Photography and the production crew + dolly,
jib arm & grip techniques + lighting & the role of the Art Director
+ color control and maintaining the electronic signal + audio mixing
techniques plus mixing, foley and compression + Internet video &
audio streaming strategies + non-linear editing utilizing Final Cut
Pro plus dedicated audio editing and mixing software.
To add more to the
above
the study of film design and producing
and the program
becomes a personal challenge to absorb, learn and perform the emerging
role of the HD Digital Filmmaker.
